Report- Quinn Kneale sponsored Under 13s Championships held at NSC Saturday 10th October ,2007
Some excellent Badminton was played, particularly in the singles events .. After the group stages of the Boys’ contest unseeded Daniel Martin ( Vikings ) joined the seeded players in the semi- final where he upset the form book by defeating the No 1 seed Aswin Lizen (St, Ninians ) 15/9.The other semi was contested by two St Ninian’s players with No 3 seed Calum Peat defeating No2 Adam Mc Auley 15/10 . Daniel Martin maintained control throughout the final and did not allow Calum to settle, running out a comfortable and deserving winner 15/6, 15/7 . The favourite for the girls’ singles was Castletown’s Laura Beggs, who just missed out in the recent u15s Championships. After the group stages Laura was joined by the St Ninian’s trio of Madeleine Smith, Jessica Li and Laura Kinley . Laura Beggs comfortably defeated Madeleine 15/4 while the other semi- final turned out to be a real cliffhanger with th No3 seed Nine year old Jessica putting in a strong finish to defeat Laura Kinley 17/16. Jessica Li played well in the final but Laura Begg’s consistent all round play paid dividends, eventually winning 15/11, 15/11. The level doubles were hotly contested with the seeded players very much to the fore. In the boys’ final Adam Mc Auley and Daniel Martin defeated Aswin Lizen and Calum Peat 15/11, 15/13. while Laura Beggs and Abigail Li fought hard before losing 17/16,15/12 to Laura Kinley and Jessica Li. The Mixed Doubles saw 20 couples participating and again there were some excellent matches in the early stages . In the first semi- final the St Ninian’s pairing, No1 seeds Aswin Lizen and Laura Kinley defeated Adam McAuley and Jessica Li 15/11. The second semi was won by Calum Peat and Laaura Beggs 15/8. The final produced no surprises with the top seeds running out comfortable winners 15/10, 15/7. Overall an excellent tournament with two double champions Daniel Martin and Laura Kinley.
