High Performance Squad

To establish a high-performance development pathway for junior badminton athletes by identifying talent and providing structured, advanced training programs. Through high quality coaching, strategic skill enhancement, and a commitment to excellence, we aim to prepare our players for competitive success at Island, regional and national levels, while fostering discipline, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Core Aims

ICT

  • To deliver targeted preparation and advanced training aimed at building a high-performing team for annual participation in the ICT tournament, ensuring readiness, cohesion, and competitive excellence.

Bridging

  • To maintain a robust and clearly defined progression pathway from the Junior Elite Squad to the Senior Squad, ensuring that athletes reaching this transition point possess the requisite skill level and performance standards to integrate successfully.

Advanced training

  • To deliver advanced training to junior athletes who meet the required performance standards, regardless of their current squad affiliation, ensuring equitable access to high-level development opportunities.

Basis for Selection

This is an invitation only squad.

Selection for the Advanced talent pathway will be based on a combination of performance, commitment, and contribution to the local badminton community. Key factors include:

  • Must be a member of an IOMBA squad
  • Demonstrated commitment and application through regular attendance at squad training.
  • Active participation and support of local league competitions.

Where appropriate, opportunities will be provided to rotate athletes who are approaching the required performance threshold, supporting their development and readiness for progression.

Other Notes:

Pairings & Trial Matches

Games played during trials and squad sessions will be used to explore potential pairings — identifying combinations that may work well together and those that may not.

  • Exploration, Not Selection: Trial games are intended to test pairings and build understanding, not necessarily to decide who makes the team.
  • Player Input Encouraged: Feedback from players is always welcome, especially regarding how they feel certain pairings may or may not work. Open communication helps inform decisions and supports team cohesion.

Advanced talent pathway attendance

If personal circumstances affect a player’s ability to consistently attend squad sessions, this should be communicated to the Performance Committee. Such circumstances will be taken into consideration as part of the overall selection process and will be communicated to the player
