Island Games Summary 🇮🇲
After a week in Guernsey, our team can rest well after their efforts over 6 gruelling days of competition. Final standings as follows:
Team event: 4th place
After a long first day with 4 team matches and everyone getting wins for the team, we topped the group and set up a Semi Final with defending champions Greenland. Despite great fight from the Manxies we lost out 3-2 to Greenland in the Semi Final (including a straight sets win for Tobey against eventual Men’s singles Gold Medallist) and to Guernsey in the Bronze Medal match by the same scoreline. This was the same position of 4 years earlier in Gibraltar and maintains our seeding for the next Games in Orkney, where the team have their sights firmly set on that elusive medal.
Individual Results
There were some great performances in the individual event, including a 27-25 on his way to a straight sets singles win for Ste! Kim extends her history-making run, by winning 5 (Yes, FIVE) Women’s Doubles Golds in a row. The team came away with a full set of medals, and plenty to celebrate and be proud of at the end of the week. Many matches were streamed live on the Guernsey2023 YouTube page, where there is a separate playlist for all the Badminton videos.
Huge thanks to Coach Ben and Player/Manager Neil, as well as other players that coached and helped out throughout the games. And also to our kit sponsors Nedbank Private Wealth.
We hope that everyone had a great time, and look forward to Orkney 2025!
